Title: SNC Autocrypt User Guide
Description: Tails OS based SNC Autocrypt communication platform
Encrypted Communications
In this chapter - connection to TOR network, browsing the web, sending and receiving encrypted e-mail, encrypted chat to e-mail users,
GnuPG cryptosystem management, LibreOffice tools, OnionShare file sharing and webpage publishing over TOR network.
Connection to TOR network, browsing the web
Tor (The Onion Router) is a free and open-source software for enabling anonymous communication. It directs Internet traffic via
a free, worldwide, volunteer overlay network that consists of more than seven thousand relays. Using Tor makes it more difficult to trace a
user's Internet activity. Tor protects personal privacy by concealing a user's location and usage from anyone performing network surveillance
or traffic analysis. It protects the user's freedom and ability to communicate confidentially through IP address anonymity using Tor exit nodes.
Using Tor protects you against a common form of Internet surveillance known as "traffic analysis." Traffic analysis can be used to infer
who is talking to whom over a public network. Knowing the source and destination of your Internet traffic allows others to track your behavior
and interests. Some attackers spy on multiple parts of the Internet and use sophisticated statistical techniques to track the communications
patterns of many different organizations and individuals. Encryption does not help against these attackers, since it only hides the content of
Internet traffic, not the headers.
- Connecting to Tor network - the Tor Connection assistant appears automatically after login or network reconection to help you
connect to the Tor network. You can choose not to connect at the moment and work offline, but all network traffic of SNC Autocrypt platform
is configured to go via Tor, therefore you will stay offline, even if Network Manager tells you are connected to the internet. To conect later,
use Gnome desktop menu item Applications > Internet > Tor Connection. Read more on Tor connections at original
Tails OS Documentation.
- Browsing the web with Tor Browser - the Tor Browser is a web browser capable of accessing the Tor network. The default search engine is
DuckDuckGo. The Tor Browser automatically starts Tor background processes and routes traffic through the Tor network. Upon termination of
a session the browser deletes privacy-sensitive data such as HTTP cookies and the browsing history. Tor Browser is based on modified Mozilla
Firefox ESR web browser, aims to make all users look the same, making it difficult for you to be fingerprinted based on your browser
and device information. Tor Browser includes different privacy means - you can read about them in
original Tails OS Documentation.
Sending and receiving encrypted e-mail, encrypted chat to e-mail users, GnuPG crypto-system management with Kleopatra
- All SNC Autocrypt e-mail communications are based on
Autocrypt standard,
therefore default e-mail client, included into SNC Delivest platform for extra e-mail security, is
Epyrus with Enigmail OpenPGP plugin. Epyrus is a fork of pre-68 version
Mozilla Thunderbird which currently supports Autocrypt standard via Enignail plugin. Enigmail was originally developed for
Mozilla Thunderbird, but Mozilla Corporation since 2021 removed
Autocrypt OpenPGP support
from their post-68 versions of Thunderbird. We provide Epyrus e-mail client tutorial,
which can be accessed via main menu entry "SNC Delivest - Manuals - Epyrus (Thunderbird) Enigmail Workbook".
- As a secure mean of decentralized communication, we provide DeltaChat application,
which uses End-to-End Encryption with Autocrypt and CounterMITM protocols,
your e-mail accounts for identification, and needs no centralized server registration to provide
PP2P (Personal Peer to Peer Protocol) chat. For further assistance,
use DeltaChat online help.
- Kleopatra is a graphical interface to OpenPGP/GnuPG, a tool to encrypt and authenticate text and files using the
OpenPGP standard. The software stores your certificates and keys, it supports managing X.509 and OpenPGP/GnuPG certificates
in the GpgSM keybox and retrieving certificates from LDAP servers. With Kleopatra you can:
- Create new OpenPGP/GnuPG keys for yourself
- Manage your OpenPGP/GnuPG private keys and the public keys of others
- Encrypt and sign text with a public key
- Encrypt text with a passphrase
- Decrypt and verify text
For detailed instructions use
GnuPG Kleopatra Handbook accessible from our Salvio NC website.
LibreOffice office productivity software suite
LibreOffice free and open-source
office productivity software suite is a project of The Document Foundation (TDF). As its native file format to save documents for all of its applications,
LibreOffice uses the Open Document Format for Office Applications (ODF), or OpenDocument, an international standard
developed jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC). LibreOffice also supports the file formats of most other major office suites, including Microsoft
Office, through a variety of import and export filters. LibreOffice provide the following applications:
OnionShare file sharing and website publishing
Use OnionShare by clicking Gnome desktop menu entry Applications > Interntet > OnionShare and following instructions in original
