Title: SNC Delivest User Guide
Description: Debian 11.6
Secure remote Office Works Suite
Desktop Workspace
In this chapter – boot from USB, user login credentials, persistence unlock, user name and password management,
workspace configuration, custom software installation, language and time zone selection, network time synchronisation.
Booting the live medium (USB key, USB SSD HD, etc.)
- The first time you boot your SNC Delivest live medium, some setup in your computer's BIOS may be needed first.
Since BIOSes vary greatly in features and key bindings, we cannot get into the topic in depth here. Some BIOSes provide a
key to bring up a menu of boot devices at boot time, which is the easiest way if it is available on your system. Otherwise,
you need to enter the BIOS configuration menu and change the boot order to place the boot device for the live system before
your normal boot device. Consult your PC manufacturer's support documentation for exact description of your actions.
- Once you've booted the medium, you are presented with a boot menu. If you wait few seconds or just press enter -
the system will boot using the default entry (first/top menu entry). NOTE: only first/top (default) boot menu entry allows
you to have persistence of configuration options for your working environment, user programs and downloaded files. In a
short time after splash screen is displayed, you will be presented input window for persistent drive partition unlock passphrase.
Enter the passphrase, which is written on your SNC Delivest live USB media package sticker. For more information about
boot options, read the live-boot and live-config man pages found within the SNC Delivest live OS system.
- Assuming you've selected default (first/top) boot menu entry, successfully unlocked persistent partition and booted a default
SNC Delivest workspace desktop image, after short moment, you will be provided loggin window. Use the name and password provided
on SNC Delivest USB media package sticker. You should be logged into default user account and see a desktop, ready to use.
If you have chosen to boot a multilingual no persistent option, you will be logged automatically as Debian Live default user,
which is member of sudoers group in password less mode.
User name, password and persistency passphrase management
------- !!! CHANGE DEFAULT VALUES IMMEDIATELY !!! -------
- System is configured to display this SNC Delivest USER GUIDE immediately after login. You can read it and close or minimize for
reference lookup during each login. It is accessible manually via main menu entry "SNC Delivest - Manuals - Delivest User Guide", therefore
you can disable it's automatic display functionality via main menu entry "SNC Delivest - Settings - Session and Start up -
application Auto start".
- You cannot rename or change User ID for your currently logged in Default User. You just can change the password and create other system
Users and after that for security reasons delete default User. For this purpose use User Settings Manager, available via main menu entry
"SNC Delivest - Settings - Users and Groups". Follow guidelines recommended in
Chapter 4 of herein provided GNU/Linux Debian Reference Manual, which is also available online. Never make compromises when choosing
your password!!!. If you change the password of the user, after next reboot, the key wallet will pop up on the screen claiming of changed password -
you should enter old (previous) password for password change acceptance.
- To change lock/encryption passphrase of your persistency disk partition, use gnome-disks utility "Disks" available via
main menu entry "SNC Delivest - Accessories - Disks". Open "Disks" utility, select encrypted partition /dev/sda3
press on button marked with gears below disk volume diagram and select "Change Passphrase". Enter your current and new
encryption passphrases. You can allso use the following cli commands "sudo blkid" and "sudo crypt setup luksChangeKey /dev/sda3"
to verify which partition is LUKS encrypted and to change encryption passphrase of LUKS persistence partition.
- SNC Delivest by default comes with disabled root account by having no root password set. If you need root account, you should create
the password by running "sudo passwd" as Default User, which is by default included into sudoers group and is capable to run commands
on behalf of root without extra authorization. If you want to deactivate root account, run the following command as root:
"passwd -d root && passwd --lock root"; just make sure before head another user is set as password less sudoer to be able to re enable it
via "sudo passwd". Attention: do not remove all password less sudoer users from the system if root account is disabled - you will not
be able to activate root user until Factory Restore actions are performed.
SNC Delivest user space, custom software, time and locales configuration
- SNC Delivest platform uses XFCE desktop environment for all it's GUI application software. Desktop comes preconfigured with
Whisker menu on the top left side and two (top and bottom) panels. Stationary top panel runs windows buttons and status tray icons, maximised windows

all application software for remote office operations. XFCE desktop environment aims to be fast and low on system resources, while still being
visually appealing and user friendly. Find more at XFCE documentation" and
